Election Commission gives voters in seven states another chance to verify enrolment
text_fieldsThe Election Commission has given voters marked absent, dead, or duplicate in seven states another opportunity to verify their details and ensure their inclusion in the final electoral rolls.
The states are Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana and Nagaland.
The EC has also directed officials to establish a monitoring mechanism to ensure that no eligible voter is denied the opportunity to be included in the final electoral roll. The mechanism will also help prevent duplicate enrolments.
The latest move comes as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Earlier, the Commission extended the deadline for submitting voter enrolment and deletion forms in Delhi. It also reopened the submission window in Maharashtra and extended the period for disposing of forms in Nagaland, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana.
In separate letters to the respective Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), the EC has now revised the deadlines for publishing the final electoral rolls.
The final rolls will be published on November 30 in Nagaland, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Haryana. In Delhi, the revised publication date is December 22.
