New Delhi: Indian smartphone brand Karbonn has returned to the market with its new Rebel smartphone, priced at Rs 11,999 as part of a limited-period launch offer on Amazon. The device has a listed price of Rs 14,999, while an additional bank discount of Rs 1,000 brings the effective price down to Rs 10,999 for eligible buyers, according to Gadgets 360

The phone's biggest attraction is its massive 7,000mAh battery, an unusual feature in this price segment. Designed for users who spend long hours streaming videos, browsing social media and making calls, the battery supports 18W charging. However, the relatively modest charging speed could make powering up such a large battery time-consuming.

The Karbonn Rebel features a 6.75-inch punch-hole HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 650-nit brightness. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio G81 processor and carries a 50MP rear camera.

The smartphone also supports expandable storage of up to 1TB through a microSD card and retains the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack.

While the large battery and expandable storage stand out at this price, the HD+ screen resolution and 18W charging are notable compromises. Whether these features will help Karbonn regain ground in India's fiercely competitive budget smartphone market remains to be seen.

Founded in 2009, Karbonn Mobiles was established as a joint venture between Delhi-based Jaina Group and Bengaluru-based United Telelinks Limited (UTL). The homegrown brand gained prominence in India's budget handset market with affordable dual-SIM phones and later expanded into Android smartphones and tablets. It was also among the first brands to bring Google's Android One initiative to India.
