ITBP chief confirms ongoing face-offs at several locations in Arunachal Pradesh
text_fieldsITBP Director General Shatrujeet Kapur has confirmed that face-offs are ongoing at several locations in Arunachal Pradesh, drawing demands from the Congress for answers from the government over the border situation with China.
Speaking at the Himveer Samman Samaroh in Alwar, Rajasthan, on Thursday, Kapur said, “Recently, a situation arose where a face-off took place at several locations in Arunachal and is still ongoing.”
He credited the Indo-Tibetan Border Police’s newly formed Shaurya Commando teams with playing an exemplary role during the face-offs.
The remarks came a month after India and China held Corps Commander-level talks at the Wacha-Damai border meeting point in Arunachal Pradesh. Reports of tensions near Taksing in Upper Subansiri district had emerged following movements by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
The Ministry of External Affairs said the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) gets disturbed when Chinese forces deviate from established patrolling patterns.
“Both sides continue to use existing diplomatic and military mechanisms to resolve outstanding issues and avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation along the Line of Actual Control,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday. He also stressed that maintaining peace along the border was essential for the overall development of bilateral relations.
The Congress demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah clarify reports that China had prevented Indian troops from patrolling certain areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
“After Galwan, now Arunachal Pradesh? Disturbing reports suggest that China is attempting to push further into areas in Arunachal Pradesh, an inalienable part of our nation. This demands immediate answers from the Modi Government,” the party said on X.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also questioned whether India’s patrolling access had been compromised and sought clarity on the outcomes of diplomatic engagements with China.
Kapur also highlighted the ITBP’s modernisation plans, including increased investment in drones, anti-drone systems and specialised high-altitude combat capabilities.
