Ballia: Police in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, have registered a case against two unidentified persons for allegedly burning an Islamic flag during a Durga idol immersion procession.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Garwar town when the procession was passing a mosque. According to police, some participants set fire to an Islamic flag attached to an electricity pole outside the mosque.

A purported video of the incident, shared on social media, shows a group of youths raising alleged inflammatory slogans and attempting to burn the flag. Police personnel can also be seen at the spot in the video.

Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Verma said police came to know about the incident through social media on Thursday. A case was registered on Friday following a complaint.

He said strict action would be taken against those found responsible for the incident.

Several Muslim organisations expressed anger over the incident on X and circulated the video, seeking action against those involved.
